Prekindergarten through Grade 5
Godly Play (Pre-K through grade 5) is a Montessori-based curriculum that uses religious language—in parables and sacred stories, as well as silence and liturgical action—to help children grow more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives.  We tell Bible stories that encourage the children to enter into the stories and relate them to personal experience.

Godly Play I is for children Pre-K through grade 1.  Godly Play II is for students in grades 2 through 5.

Church school starts at 10:15 a.m. Sundays.

We also provide a number of other activities for children and families.  For the youngest family members, the nursery operates from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Sundays.  Additionally, special programs for the church seasons, service projects, parent discussion groups, family outings and a resource library are part of the Christian Education ministry.

Take a Longer Look at Godly Play
For more information about Godly Play, contact Pamela Dolan, Director of Formation for Children and Families at Emmanuel Church, at (314)  961-2393 or pdolan@emmanuelepiscopal.org. In the meantime, here are some additonal thoughts from Dolan on the role of Godly Play in Christian formation:

Maybe you don’t think of yourself as a “Christian Ed” person.  You don’t work with kids, and you certainly don’t use Godly Play.  But maybe you do preach, or lead a Bible Study, or plan adult education time.  Maybe you work with youth, perhaps even preparing them for confirmation.  And in all those places and contexts you know that the important thing is to be able to really get inside the stories of the Bible—God’s stories—and then share them in a way that helps connect them with your own story, and the stories of those you serve.  God’s stories, our stories.
